In-person class at Espace Tricot, 6050 Monkland Ave, Montreal.
From the popular series of little animals from Julie Williams of Little Cotton Rabbits, this time we are offering you the chance to make bears, you can choose to make either a boy or a girl bear. Her patterns are for knitting flat on two needles and all pieces are seamed afterwards
In this class you will learn how to knit and shape the body of the bears and clothing, how to assemble using neat finishing techniques with a tapestry needle.
The samples knitted by our teacher Jocelyne are made with Espace Tricot’s Jolly DK stranded with mohair for a nice fuzzy feel. She used 3mm needles to achieve a tight gauge suitable for a stuffed animal. You may choose a different weight of yarn using the same pattern, this will simply change the size of the bear. You should use the same weight yarn for the clothing as per the bear for the clothing to fit.
Required materials: pattern, about 100m of fingering, sport or DK weight yarn for body, and about 60 m total for clothing. Knitting needles used can vary from 2.25mm to 3mm according to choice of yarn. You will also need a darning needle.
Pre-requisites: Level 2: knit, purl, M1, ssk, k2tog (you should be an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter to be comfortable in this class).
